Christmas in Seoul

Updated: Feb 13, 2019

What is the first thing that pops up in your mind every time December rolls around? For me it is Christmas. Christmas trees, decorations, songs, festivals, and presents! are some of the things that makes Christmas the best wonderful time of the year. Too bad that Korea actually does not really celebrate Christmas like other western countries do. Besides, in western countries, people usually spend Christmas with their own family, but in Korea, Christmas is apparently identical with couple. So we can say that those who are single do not really interest in celebrating Christmas. A pitiful fact, right... BUT if you guys happen to visit Korea during Christmas, you can feel the Christmas atmosphere by going to below places located in Seoul!

1. Times Square

Times Square is a large shopping mall located in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, which has different Christmas decoration each year. This year they have a giant Christmas tree with blue lights and surrounded by tiny Santa's house.

2. Dongdaemun Office

If you know Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Dongdaemun Office is located near it. There is nothing special in this place though. I just walked around Dongdaemun street and saw this Christmas decoration which is quite pretty. So if you are around Dongdaemun, you can take a look this Christmas tree with the blue-lights tunnel beside the tree.

3. Tous Les Jours

Another thing you can not miss during Christmas: Christmas cake! Tous Les Jours is a South Korean bakery franchise owned by CJ Foodlive. It is said that in French Tous Les Jours means 'everyday'. It is easy to find this bakery store since it is Korean's franchise, the place that I went is located in Hyehwa, Seoul. You can see in front of the store, they have a variety of beautiful Christmas cakes.

4. C27 Chessecake & Coffee - Garosugil

C27 is a four-floor cafe with 27 kinds of cheesecakes and a range of drinks and wines located in the popular shopping street, Garosugil (Sinsadong), Seoul. As you can expect from the outside building, the indoor decoration is really unique which they have different themes for each floor. Compare to other cakes, the cheesecake here is quite pricey though, range from 8,000 won to 9,000won, and the drink is around 6,000won++. Probably it is because you do not only pay for the cake but also for the beautifully decorated interior rooms they have for each floor.
