943 King's Cross Harry Potter Cafe

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

In the movie, Harry Potter and his friends get to the platform by dashing through a brick wall between platform 9 and 10. The actual filming site is located in 9¾ platform of King's Cross Station in London, UK. Meanwhile in Seoul, there is a brand new Harry Potter cafe called King's Cross in the youth district of Hongdae. This is actually not the first Harry Potter cafe in South Korea, I heard there are also Harry Potter theme based cafes in Busan and Daegu, but good news for all Potterheads since now you don't have to travel far to those cities! And the Harry Potter cafe in Seoul is the largest boasting four floors and a basement.

The entire building is designed exactly like the station in London!

If I'm not mistaken, the cafe was opened in November 2018 and since the opening day until today the cafe is always packed with people, both locals and tourists, especially during weekend and holidays. The staff will only allow people into the cafe batch by batch. So be prepared to wait outside for quite some time, especially if you are intending to visit on weekends. Luckily I came here on a weekday so I could directly enter and grabbed a seat but a few hours later I saw a very long line of people queueing.

The famous photo spot right outside the café, the scene where Harry passes through the wall to get to Platform 9 and ¾.

The cafe is really large, they rented the whole building for the cafe, and it is easily found since it is located only 5 minutes away from Hongdae subway station exit 9. When you walk in, you will be greeted by the magical soundtrack from Harry Potter movie.

B1 Floor "Hog's Head (Pub&Cafe)

The basement floor is opened as cafe in the day and pub in the evening. Unfortunately they don't offer many types of beers (which I believe only two beers that you can order on the first floor) and those bottles that are displayed on the cupboard are just decorations LOL.

1st Floor "Magical Liquid Medicine OR Dessert&Food"

Upon entering you will be greeted by an old staircase with a lot of Harry Potter books and a huge rack of wand boxes where many visitors take picture in this area.

Basically you can order your drink or dessert first on the first floor and grab seats on 2nd / 3rd / 4th floor with different decoration for each floors.

The drink price is a bit pricey compare to other cafes but there is no admission fee to enter this cafe so I think the price is quite reasonable.

They have the normal espresso (KRW5,000) , Americano (KRW5,900), Einspanner (KRW7,500), Cafe Latte (KRW6,900), Vanilla Latte (KRW7,500), Hazelnut Latte (KRW7,500), Cappuccino (KRW6,900), Cafe Mocha (KRW7,500), and Caramel Macchiato (KRW7,500).

If you don't drink coffee they also have the non-caffein drinks such as Green Tea Latte (KRW 7,500), Chocolate Latte (KRW7,500), Peach Ice Tea (KRW6,500), Grapefruit Ade (KRW 6,900), Lemon Ade (KRW6,900), and Hibiscus Ade (KRW7,500).

I heard the specialty of this cafe are Butter Beer (KRW 8,500) and Sweet Butter Beer (KRW 8,500).

Don't forget to take selfie on this instagrammable mirror!

Even the elevator is so Harry Potter!

2nd Floor "Wizard Cafe"

Each floor and every corner was decorated carefully with the down-to-dust decorations and many books related to Harry Potter which you can read on spot for free.

3rd Floor "Banquet Hall"

There is also a seating area on the third floor, which gives out a totally different vibe compared to the first and second floor, kind of like the great hall in the movie where they have feasts and dinners.

4th Floor 'Wizard Dormitory"

On the forth floor, you can just sit while enjoying your drink with the "wizard dorm" atmosphere and you can also try the Hogwarts gown and broom for free!

My friend and I ordered Einspanner, Grapefruit Ade, and Oreo Cheesecake. I personally think both of the drinks and the cake are disappointing. I have tried so many Einspanner and this one did not taste as good as the others..

For those who are based in Seoul and fond of Harry Potter, this cafe is recommended but don't expect too much because you can't really feel the Harry Potter ambience for 100% and the beverages and food are not that satisfying. But this cafe is definitely a nice place to take insta-worthy pictures ^^
