2D1N Trip to Gangneung

Gangneung, located at the east side of South Korea, is the largest coastal city in Gangwon province. Gangneung has a lot of tour attractions and among them is Jeongdongjin, a popular area to see the sun rise. Since it is a beach, I recommend you to visit this place during summer (May~September). Although I heard during winter the view looks nice too because of the snow, but I don't think there are a lot of things to do because of the freezing coldness.

Last year in September, I went to Gangneung for a 2days 1night trip to enjoy my Chuseok holiday. No regret, the view there is amazing. So here is my recommended itinerary for a 2days 1night trip in Gangneung.

Day 1 : 10 am - Seoul to Gangneung

From Seoul Bus Express Terminal / Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal (Seoul subway line 3, 7, 9 exit 1 or 2) take the express bus that goes directly to Gangneung. The trip takes around 3 hours and costs around 30,000won (round trip). During peak season, I recommend you to book the bus first on this page : https://txbuse.t-money.co.kr/ (English)

*There are a lot of restaurants in the terminal, so you can grab your lunch first and eat it in the bus ^^

1 pm - Gangneung Express Bus Terminal

After arriving at Gangneung express bus terminal, take bus number 109 and gets down at Jeongdong Elementary School (정동초등학교) terminal. It takes around 1 hour.

2 pm - Jeongdongjin Beach (정동진해변)

From Jeongdong Elementary School bus terminal walks around 7 minutes and you can see the beach.

Bus - From Gangneung Intercity / Express Bus Terminal, take Bus No. 109. - Get off at Jeongdong and walk 300m.

Train - Take a train from Cheongnyangni Station to Jeongdongjin Station.

Jeongdongjin Time Museum (정동진시간박물관)

This museum is located in the Jeongdongjin beach so while walking around the beach you can easily find the museum.

7 pm - Dinner : Soft Tofu Stew

Gangneung is also known for its Soft Tofu Stew. The tofu stew tastes different with the usual stew that most of you can have in Seoul, and there are a lot of soft tofu stew restaurant in Jeongdongjin which you can easily find.

8 pm - Jeongdongjin Beach Night View

9 pm - Sun Guest House

Day 2 : 9 am - Breakfast at Sun Guest House

10.15 am - Sea Train (바다열차) Jeongdong - Donghae - Samcheok

From 10.30 - Jeongdong Station to Samcheok Station at 11.53 (one-way - 16,000won)

By just sitting in the train you can enjoy the flawless sea side view from the window
